Valerie sees photography as a way to further develop a thought, an idea or an emotion. She uses the camera to explore cultural differences, social and environmental issues and to better understand the world we inhabit.

She is a freelance photographer who shoots everything from weddings to international adventure. Sauers received a BFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She assists National Geographic photographer Erika Larsen and leads trips for National Geographic Student Expeditions.
